We had 27 people for Thanksgiving this year - just two little ones - Mikayla & Joshua. Maybe a very little one next year as Natina is pregnant!!! Also thankful that cousin Robert is home - recovering from a heart attack and having a stent inserted a week ago Saturday. (he'd been refereeing a women's volleyball game at UC Fullerton, and on the way home felt bad. Good thing he took himself to the ER)
After very little sleep (excitement & achy knees!), kidlets & I did the 9th Annual Gobble Gobble Not Trot (5k walk along the beach). 7:15 AM meet up, 7:30 walk. Breakfast at McDonald's afterwards.
I baked the yams and made spanakopitas while Kyle went back to bed & Alani played computer games. Loaded up the car and out the door by 11:15. Dropped everything and kidlets off at da house and then went back out for tea lights, flowers (yellow rose for the obutsudan, chrysanthemums & autumn flowers bouquet, blue irises), and ice.
This year, of the aunties, only Auntie Clara came. Auntie Nobuko's dementia & health has gotten to the point where she needs constant care at a SNF. Auntie Asako too is lost to Alzheimer's. Auntie Hanako is still going strong (bad hips and all) - and hosting the LA Thanksgiving. =)
Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rice, gravy, cranberry sauce (2), inari, futomaki, spam musubi, veggie shepard's pie, eggplant parmigiana, teriyaki flank steak with string beans, honey baked ham, kale & quinoa salad, green salad, fruit salad, finger jello, baked yams, duck, chow mein, Shanghai lumpia, egg rolls...
Pumpkin, apple, pecan and berry bomb pies. No banana cream - they were out. Skip was not a happy camper when he found that out at Marie Callendar's. Cookies! Virginia made her yummy biscottis again!
Early night, clean up was done by 9:15, home by 9:30.
Got a phone call at 4am. Poor goddaughter Laura had fallen and brokem her right arm. Surgery may be needed. Her mom, bff Joycie, called from ER for some support. Means that Wee Willie won't be able to work for 4-6 weeks. (self employed - ouch)
Good wishes and healing thoughts for Laura would be appreciated!
