Day started out on the wrong foot - hit the snooze bar one time too many. Didn't roll out of bed until 9:30am. EEKkkk! I still had to fry the maifun (rice noodles) for the chinese chicken salad, boil the yams and make spinach pie. Oh, and take a shower, pick up 3 bags of ice and a bouquet of flowers - all by 11am. Made it to Karen's by 12:15. Oh well.
Got my snuggles with Alani & Kyle - good way to start the "event". Put together the walking taco dip, the veggie platter, baked the spinach pie and then picked up Lee around 1pm.
We had a smaller crowd this year - 28 people in all. Still had lots of food - turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rice, gravy, two kinds of cranberry, chinese chicken salad, spam sushi, futomaki, kappa maki and inari. Teriyaki style flank steak, fried won ton, two kinds of finger jello, spinach dip, mexican dip, spinach pie, kipira gobo, tsukemono, yams, jello mess, salami & cheese, fruit salad, veggie platter, chinese broccoli, char siu, chili and eggplant parmesan. For dessert, there was pumpkin pie, apple pie, blueberry pie, sugar free cheese cake mousse pie, pumpkin cheese cake, green tea mousse pie (t'was interesting), mudd pie, and that really light cake with whipped cream and fruit filling that you pick up at a chinese bakery. Oh, and lots of ice cream.
Alani was on a sugar high for most of the day. She had found many s/u/c/k/e/r/s/ kind people who would boost her up to the counter where the red finger jello could be found. She could be found chasing her brother around the house, calling for "KYLE" to wait for her.
Uncle Taro could not believe how long the extended version of Return of the Kings was. Neither could cousins Michael & Kenji. Most people enjoyed Finding Nemo.
Finished cleaning around 12:30. My mom didn't believe in using paper plates for Thanksgiving, so everybody pretty much ended up doing dishes at one point or another during the day *grin*
