OVFF

Friday, October 23rd:
Met up with Diney at the North Market. Fun!

Bought a little of this (trektone - I've got a box of chocolates and many hugs for you) and that. Chocolate! Popcorn!

Chocolate filled with blueberry and gouda cheese?

One of the joys of a public market is getting a little of this from one place and a little of that from another for lunch. I had a bowl of split pea soup (hit the spot!) and palak panir, bhindi masala and rice for lunch.

Then there was ICE CREAM. Jeni's. Tammy did not try all 17 flavors, but she came close. My personal favorites were the pear riesling, the backyard mint (oooh peppermint!!!) and the goat cheese with roasted cherries. Yum!

Other interesting flavors? Sweet corn and black raspberry. Thai chili, wildberry lavender, red hot apple cider (lots of cinnamon) and Queen City Cayenne...

Lo and behold, there was another Jeni's shop close to the hotel. Uh oh.

Got back to the con in time for the Heather Dale and Ben Deschamps concert. Loved it! Picked up two more cds.

Checked out the dealers room. Decisions, decisions. Actually didn't buy anything there the first day.

Larry Warner concert! SQUEE!!! When I first got into Mercedes Lackey's books and discovered that there was music available (aka - my intro to filk, though I didn't know that's what it was at the time), one of the first cds that I bought was Heralds, Harpers and Havoc. I was hooked. This is how I discovered Larry Warner, Kristoph Klover and Margie Butler. As I bought more, I discovered Leslie Fish and Heather Alexander. I was sooo doomed.

One of the ladies on the list and I would write back and forth on how we could listen to Larry Warner all day. Herald's Lament is still one of my favorites.

So to finally get to hear Larry Warner in person? Made me a very happy camper. *squeee*

Dinner at the hotel's restaurant. The onion soup was excellent! Can't remember what else I ate - all I can remember is THE SOUP. *g*

Pegasus Nominees Concert!!! OY! Awesome.
Really liked hearing Gabriel Gray's song by Batya Wittenberg for the first time. Enjoyed Redneck Pagan and Truck Drivin' Vampire, Howl at the Moon, Spiral Dance (!!!) and Starship and Haiku. The Wreck of the Crash of the Easthill Mining Disaster (heee!) Take It Back gets stuck in my head =)

Went down to filk, but I was out of gas. Still getting over cold or whatever it was I had earlier in the month. Question. With the huge ballroom to filk in, why did everybody end up in the hallway?

Enjoyed hearing somebody playing flute in the empty ballroom.

Was in bed by 1am

Saturday, October 24th:

Slept in. Felt wonderful.
Starbucks run (which is right next door to the local Jeni's)
Lunch at La Chatelaine. The french onion soup at the hotel was actually better *sigh* Quiche Lorraine wasn't as firm as I like my quiches, but it was tasty.

Saw the last bit of the Song Contest: Reach for the Stars.

Enjoyed the FuMP concert by Tom Smith and Luke Ski hee!

Was totally blown away by folkmew's concert. I don't think you could fit any more people up on the stage. Mary Ellen Wessels, her husband Ed Stauff, Kathy Mar, Brooke Lundeville, Heather Dale, Ben Deschamps, Wild Mercy, Toyboat, and Amy McNally. I think that's it. I may be missing somebody. It was a fantastic concert. Yay!!!!!!

andpuff was knitting kitty security blankets for the local shelter. =)

Met up with Diney and John at Katzinger's . Pickles (like the garlic one better than the straight dill), chicken liver (a guilty pleasure) and of course, a reuben. Waddle, waddle, waddle. The set up is very similar to Zingerman's in Ann Arbor. I was torn between the matzo ball soup and the chicken liver, but Tammy says she'll make me soup and latkes when we get together and have time. *g*

Went to the Bookloft - 32 rooms of books. T'was a bit claustrophobic in there and very warm.

Tammy and Kev bailed early on. Tammy found out that there was a restroom there, but you had to have a map and know the secret password *g*

Spent the rest of the evening at a coffee shop on the same street as the Bookloft and Katzinger's. Lots of yakking and laughing.

Went filking until 1:30am or so. Kanef broke Seanan with a mash up of Habit Trail Named Klein to Dear Gina. Ouch. *g* Tammy & Kev need to hear Habit Trail... Oh Walter!

Wow, both Tammy & Kev stayed out later than I did. Stupid cold.

I was on stage with MEW for the first song only. Hope you liked the Book Loft, though it does indeed have many narrow spaces. I always feel like a caver when going through - great fun.

HH&H is, really *THE* reason that Larry was one of our GoHs. HH&H was also one of my first filk tapes, and he's my second-favorite Firebird voice. I'm currently working on trying to talk my top 4 favorite male voices from those early tapes into coming next year to do a round robin concert.

MEW's concert and everybody involved - it was just awesome!

I think I got through all of the West side of the Book Loft. Will have to go back and spend more time. It definitely felt like one of those places with secret passage ways *g*

The round robin concert sounds awesome! What a great idea =)
Kev, Tammy and I have already agreed that we're going to OVFF next year. Just trying to convince a few others to come too...
