Happy Birthday Mom!!!

I wish I could give her a big hug as I say that, but she's been gone 14 years now. I so miss her laughter, her wise-ass comments and all the joy and love she gave. Kyle and Alani are now 9 and 7 respectively, and I really wish that they could have known her.

So in her memory, I will be walking in Relay For Life - the annual fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.

If you're in the area, please come and join me! Last I heard, I'll be sharing a tent with Karen, Gayle, Kyle and Alani. (kidlets are excited!) I'll definitely be walking some of the late night/early shifts. Team Redwood City is also running the snow cone booth - so look for the people in the purple ty dye shirts splattered with syrup!

The Luminaria Ceremony is at dusk - hundreds of luminarias will be lit and will continue to glow all night long. Every year, as I read all the messages on the luminarias - happy & sad - I remember all the people I've lost to cancer - and those who are still fighting it.

American Cancer Society – Relay for Life
May 30-31, 2009 from 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday
Sequoia High School 1201 Brewster Ave Redwood City, CA 94401

I think ours is in June. The Bark for Life is today, but I thought I would be out of town so I didn't sign up. Except now I'm not, so I might go over and see how they're doing.

this year I have another one to walk for - I just learned last night that a boy I used to babysit in my church has died of melonoma at the age of twenty-something. Every time my sister-in-law starts saying how tanning booths are safe and other such nonsense, I have to restrain myself from hitting her. SKIN CANCER KILLS, people! Get over the tan thing and stop trying to kill yourselves!

Go Deb!

When I am back in the states, I'll put in my donation. Great cause. Moms are the best. I miss mine too terribly (gone 14 years this Christmas Eve).
