Holiday Celebration!

Dinner with Joey last night at Camino on Grand Ave. in Oakland. It's fairly new I think, so we weren't quite sure what to expect.

Grilled local squid with farro and herbs (very tasty - loved the farro)

Autumn chicories with anchovy and radishes (radishes were the watermelon kind, very pretty!)

Wood oven-roasted black trumpet mushrooms, Jerusalem artichokes and wild nettles (I really liked the taste and texture of the nettles)

Boudin blanc with cabbage and Sierra beauty apples (I had to google "boudin" to find out it was a type a sausage. Tasty comfort food!)

We had a mouvedre and a syrah - one was from Rhone and one from Provence - not sure which was which. I preferred the mouvedre.

ETA 12-19-08 2:06pm: 2007 Combier Crozes-Hermitage, Rhône & 2004 Terrebrune Bandol, Provence

We looked at the dessert menu and decided that Fenton's was much more to our liking. It was cold last night, but Fenton's was fairly packed. Go figure. No pomegranate sorbet *sniff*, but rocky road with a banana was lovely. Joey enjoyed his black and tan.

Lots of good cheer and chatting!
