Saturday, Kev, Tammy and I all slept in. I think Diney and John went to a few panels - this being Diney's first ever convention. We met up around noonish for brunch at Bistro 94 at the hotel. Good breakfast. I did have poached eggs and corned beef hash - t'was very tasty. Tammy built herself an omelet that had goat cheese as one of the ingredients and really liked it.
Kev went to the Iron Filker panel around 1ish. I went over there to see what was going on, but by then, Kev was in the lobby - the filkers were busy composing their songs, so there wasn't much to see. He, Tammy and I went up to the Dealer's Room and the Art Show. Not a whole lot to see at the Art show - but there were lamp worked beads!!!!!!! At least 4 went home with me...
Around 2:45, we made ourselves comfortable in the Apollo meeting room. Got to meet archiver_tim while Joey was getting himself all squared away. Joey had even made little signs for Michelle and her husband's chairs. *g*
Enjoyed Joey's concert!!!! Michelle had requested all of the songs except for the two that her husband Tom had. Blood Child! Lies by Stan Rogers. A song that Suzanne Vega sings that she didn't write. Cranes Over Hiroshima *sniff* and yay! Dream Riders(???) and one other Mercedes Lackey. Temper of Revenge and Lightsail Ship (???) and Starship and Haiku. I is brain dead.
I did get to meet maiac!!! One of the bad parts of doing the surprise is that I wasn't able to let Maia and Margaret know we were coming...
4pm - was able to get all my "Cast In" books signed =)
5pm was the Michael Longcor and Tom Smith Concert. I enjoyed them both very much. T'was good to see Tom up and about! Ghost Chickens In the Sky. Pirate Christmas carols. Oh dear. Tammy bought many Tom Smith cds!
Diney, John, Kev, Tammy and I were going to have dinner at the grill next door, but we bagged it when our non-smoking table would be just over the panel from the smoking area. Walked down the street to an Italian restaurant called Leonardo's. I think Kev, Tammy and I had salads and Diney and John had the soup. We split the Mexican pizza (Topped with Salsa, Mozzerella Cheese, Seasoned Ground Beef, Onion, Black Olives, Green Pepper, Nacho Chips, Lettuce, Chopped Tomatoes & Cheddar Cheese) and the Mediterrainean Style Pizza (Mozzerella Cheese, Prociutto Ham, Onion, Tomato & Roasted Red Peppers. Topped with Artichoke Hearts, Feta Cheese, Olive Oil & Special Spices). The Med was very good and the Mexican was good in an *interesting* sort of way *g*
I went filking. Not sure what everybody else did. Did get to hear some great classical guitar! Loved the dulcimar (Peter Alway) and classical guitar duet! Things broke up around midnight, though I heard there was a regrouping a bit later on.
As I was walking over the elevator, a lady came up to me and asked me if I were Michelle. I told her "no". She then asked, in an off the cuff manner, "then you probably wouldn't know where Joey was". I said "Joey Shoji? I don't know where he is, but I could call him". I looked at her name tag and read "Carol". I then asked are you "carolf who just had her dream house built?". She looked a bit taken aback *weg* Yes, I read Joey's friends list. Didn't get a hold of Joey, but did leave a message and did give her his phone numbers.
I went back up to the room and found all my roomies were still out and about. Gave Kev a call and he said that everybody was in Diney's room, but they were heading up to our room.
Joey joined us a little bit later (after he'd had a chance to call Carol)- guitar in tow. Yay!!!! Much yakking and singing (well Joey sang, the rest of us listened) until 4am! He played Lullaby for a Weary World which made me very happy indeed. There was even that "wine" song for Tammy ("Today"). He also sang both versions of Fallen Angel, Never Set a Cat on Fire, bits of Japanese folk songs and other fun stuff.
