Me 2010

A week ago Saturday started out with breakfast with the kidlets & K. I skipped the Farmers Market (and there is NOTHING in my fridge right now)

Then I picked up pezazul at SFO (late, cuz traffic was bad). We went off to Best Buy to pick up a wireless router just in case for WorldCon. We didn't need it. Did a bit of shopping for supplies at Trader Joe's. Tried to go to St. George's but it was packed to the gills and there was a wait for tasting. So, we skipped it.

Walked up to Park Street for dinner - ended up at Hobnob. The fig and goat cheese salad is very tasty!

Sunday, Kev, the kidlets and I went out to East Ocean Seafood for dim sum. Yum!

Picked up herefox and did our book geeking at Dark Carnival.

Since we were in the neighbornood, we just had to have dinner at Zachary's. More yum!

Went to see Glee in 3D at EmeryBay. At least I got popcorn =)

Monday, we had breakfast at Jim's. Then onto Napa for wine!

Our main stop was for a tour & tasting at Castello di Amoroso. Castle - very cool! Dungeon & torture chamber even. It's owned by Dario Sattui of V. Sattui Winery. I really liked both the rose wines - Gioia (Rosato di Sangiovese) and Fantasia (liked the Fantasia the best), the gewurztraminer - Dolcino, and the pinot nero (aka pinot noir - from the Santa Lucia Highlands). Yum.

Prager was next. This is the first time in eons where we were the only ones there. Usually, it's packed to the gills. Nice to be able to chat and take our time while tasting.

On to Sattui's for a bit of tasting and a picnic lunch. Their deli is very dangerous. OOOh the Moscato was very tasty this trip. Madeira was as lovely as ever. Lunch consisted of two types of salami, manchego, shropshire, a coffee gouda (weird), one other cheese that I can't remember, marinated mushrooms, gnocchi, edamame salad and lots of sourdough bread! T'was a gorgeous, relaxing day.

We got to Raymond's just before closing, but they were kind enough to accommodate us. Yum!

WorldCon - Part I

So, Tuesday, August 16th, Kev & I drove up to Reno via I80. Stopped for lunch at an In'n'Out just outside of Lincoln - he'd never been to one before. I still think it's just okay =)

Trip up was *interesting*. Major road construction had us splitting off onto part of westbound lanes - you know, spots you normally don't drive - no guard rail on the right and a complete drop off down a cliff? Yeah. I had heard that the delay might be horrific, but we got through with only a bit of a delay. Made up to Reno in less than 4 hours excluding our lunch break.

Arrived at the Peppermill and checked in. Our room in the Peppermill Tower was very nice, though the paintings were sort of over the top. The eyes sort of just *stared* at you in a creepy way. Walking through the casino - I had forgotten just how smokey it is. Ugh.

Drove over to the Reno Sparks Convention Center (RSCC). It is exactly one mile from the hotel to the convention. With the temperatures in the mid-nineties, I decided that walking back and forth was not happening. Picked up our registration packets and started to go through the schedule while we waited for trektone

Went to dinner with Joey to Fuego. Tapas! We shared the tortilla espanola, bacalao, patatas bravas (hey, with Joey, we always get french fries), shrimp torpedos and paella. I know I had the salad special (tasty, but I can't remember what was in it!!) and Kev had the gazpacho. Spanish hot chocolate and churros for dessert! I got a glass of Borsao (me like), but I can't remember what Kev & Joey got.

Went back to the room, checked out the schedule some more, figured out my Costco list and then I went down to gamble for a bit after 11pm. Yeah, until 3am. (note, this would become a pattern) I lost.
