The IT office at Police has now been renamed "The Bat Cave" in memory of Michael "Bats" Batsford. The plaque on the door has the "bat signal" engraved & other information about Mike. Wonderful!!!
Huge spread - bbq chicken and grilled tri-tip. Brown rice, fried rice and plain steamed white rice. Spinach salad, fruit salad, two different green salads, potato salad, macaroni salad. Lots of desserts... There had to be at least 150 people there.
Thursday night, herefox and I finally went to Chez TJ for dinner. We've been walking past this place for years - but as it's a prix fixe dinner at $75 per person ($120 if you do the accompanying wine pairing) and it's a tie required sort of place - we hadn't gone.
Foxy had won a gift certificate at last year's Theatreworks Preview party and it would expire at the end of the month, so we went. He did the wine flight. We both had the champagne/kir cocktail.
Thursday's menu was:
avocado custard with lemon and topped with clam & caviar - I liked it a lot; Foxy was okay except for the caviar *g*
CHILLED CARROT SOUP
Dungeness Crab, Sea Urchin, Lime
with 2004 Chalone Vineyard Pinot Blanc, Chalone, California
Fresh Hearts of Palm, Preserved Lemon, Berbere
with 2004 DR. Loosen Villa Woolf Riesling Kabinett, Germany
My choice - tasty!
Fresh Horseradish, Green Onion, 50 Year Sherry Vinegar
with 2004 Catamayor Sauvignon Blanc, Uruguay
FOIE GRAS AU TORCHON
Roasted Butter Pear, Maple Syrup
with 2002 Monbazillac, Seigneur Monbazillac, France
Foxy's choice - foie gras was very good
OLIVE OIL POACHED BLACK COD
Poulpe "Linguine," Red Lentil, Cumin
with 2004 Domaine de Triennes, Sainte Fleur Viognier
BAY SCALLOPS AND SWEET SHRIMP
Vanilla-Butter, Wood Ear Mushrooms, Chard
with 2004 Louis Latour Ardeche Chardonnay, France
SMOKED ATLANTIC CHAR
Kumquat, Roasted Onion, Rosemary
with 2003 Pinot Noir Bradley Vineyards, Willamette Valley, Oregon
My choice - I liked the different tastes mixed together
The "palate cleanser" was a yummy green apple sorbet served in a champagne gelee. (sp??? and there's an accent there somewhere)
SLOW POACHED BEEF TENDERLOIN
Local Mushrooms, Pearl Barley, Oxtail Consomme
with 2002 York Creek Vineyards Meritage, Napa Valley, California
Foxy's choice - it was very good, but he thought the lamb was better
DECLINASION OF DUCK
Huckleberries, Red Cabbage, Roibus
with 2001 EXP Syrah, Calistoga, California
My first choice. They were out. *wah*
NIMAN RANCH LEG OF LAMB
Caperberries, Currants, Almond Oil
with 2002 Swanson Merlot, Oakville, California
What I got instead - very good, but not duck. Nice mix of flavors though
ARTISAN CHEESE SELECTION
Yum! french blue cheese, some sort of creamy (but not brie) cheese and one that sort of tasted "grassy"??? Some of the accompaniments were a puree of dates, figs in olive oil?...
TRIPTYCH OF TANGERINE
Tarragon, Milk, Honey
Foxy got a 3 different servings of tangerine - something in a tangerine bowl, in a parfait and a mix of fruits. Very pretty
WARM CHOCOLATE SOUP
Roasted Bananas, Chestnut Ice Cream
BAY LEAF CREME BRULEE
Pear Sorbet, Hazelnuts
French Roast Coffee
Imperial Court Tea
mango gelees and bittersweet chocolate truffles
Last night, spent the evening with my sisters and da kiddies. Movie night - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Kyle enjoyed it, in a puzzled sort of way. We spent half the time explaining things to him. I think he was looking for something more Star Wars - more action - more fights.
Of all the ST movies, this one is my favorite. It's just so much fun. K, G & I were giggling over bits and pieces. Kyle was happy because he knew where the "nuklear wessels" were. Alani just liked the whales.
