Mom

Got to the gym today and looked at the daily board. Read the date - May 27th. Immediately felt sad, and then realized why - today is Mom's "Meinichi" or date/anniversary of her death. I knew it was coming, just hadn't hit me that it was "today". 10 years have past since I last held her.

Mom, I miss you.

*hug*

How do you mark the day, BTW? In Judaism, the yahrzeit is marked with a 24-hour candle and saying a prayer, I've never known what other cultures do.

Thanks =)

Usually, one brings flowers to the chapel and/or family shrine and prayers are said. I'm not 100% sure whether it's totally a Buddhist tradition or a Japanese tradition. Buddhist tradition is to also have memorial services for special anniversaries - 1st, 3rd, 7th, 13th, 25th, 33rd and 50th. 50th year may be more of an American tradition than a Buddhist one.
