May 14-15 2005 from 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday
Sequoia High School 1201 Brewster Ave Redwood City, CA 94401
On May 27th, it will be 10 years since I held my mom as she died. Even after all this time, it is still very difficult to think about let alone talk about it. The official cause was lung cancer, but we were pretty sure it had spread to other places. She had originally been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and had had surgery to remove it, but it was still somewhere in her body. She had been diagnosed in November, 1993 and passed away on May 27, 1995.
There is still no cure for cancer, so I’m raising money for research and services through The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. This is a 24 hour team event in which at least one team member will be walking on the Sequoia High School track. The inner circle of the track will be ringed with luminaries – white paper bags containing some sand to hold it steady and a candle. The bags will have names of people who have survived cancer and those who did not. Many of the bags will be decorated with pictures and some will have messages of encouragement and some, how much the person is missed. At dusk, all the candles will be lit and we will all walk and remember and hope.
I am asking y’all to support me by making a donation – a little bit, a lot – every bit helps. If you’re in the neighborhood, I will be camped out – come and join me for a lap or two.
Donations can be made by sending me a check, through pay pal (firstname.lastname@example.org) or through my relay donation page (click here).
