What Tammy said. But rather than doing a name change, Rainy created a new journal and deleted the old one. Took me a few days too, cause it happened while I was on vacation.

This is why I love Semagic's update friends feature. I usually check it a least once every few days, because it pops up that people friended or defriended you (and birthdays too).

Semagic is a downloadable program that you can use for posting to LJ. It's a better user interface for writing posts. For example, you can have it insert the code for showing an lj user (like getting tammy_g means you'd have to normally type <lj user=tammy_g>) just by clicking on a name in a drop down list (of your friends). When you leave it open (as an icon on your system try...the thing down by the clock), you can set it to check your friends list to see if any new posts (how many new posts is configurable) have been made. If so, it flashes and you can click on it to bring up your friends page. The community for it is ljwin32_sema
