Digital Camera

I'm looking for a digital camera to take to England.

I am not looking for something extra fancy - just want something that takes good pics. I do need a good autofocus - have never been into the manual focus/shutter speed/aperature stuff.

I do want something that has good resolution as I do want to have the pics printed.

Am currently eyeing the Canon Powershot S50.

Any suggestions?

If you're going Canon Powershot S series, I seriously recommend the hundred series. My S230 is the love of my life and the best point-and-shoot hand-sized digital camera I've held in my hands. It has wonderful options in manual mode, and it is also quite smart in auto mode.

And its colourspaces are good, too -- it picks up a lot of warmth whereas the bigger Nikons will make the same scene look very cool.

The only problem with the Canons (I noticed this with both the S200 and the S230) besides the amount of money you need to pay if you want a decent optical zoom is that the shutter button is slightly stiff and thus unless you're good at holding your elbows in and staying still or have a good mini-tripod, your pictures taken in anything less than super-brilliant lighting will come out shakey.

I thought mroblivious' Argus took good pics, at least close up:
